This years grading policy will be similar to the past grading policies the science department has maintained over the last few years.
50% of your grade will be tests/exams.
No test grade will be recorded as under 50% even if the student does NOT score to the 50% mark with two exceptions, the Midterm and the Regents Exam, whatever the student earns is reported on the report card and counts as 10% (total 20%) each in the calculation of the students overall, Final Grade. You can expect three to four exams in each marking quarter.
25% of your grade will be quizzes.
No quiz grade will ever be recorded under 50% even if the student does not score to the 50% mark. These quizzes will include vocabulary, reading, science based and multiple choice or written. All reading quizzes are unannounced as they do not require any studying. You will have seven to ten quizzes each quarter.
5% of your grade will be homework. Homework can and will be assigned, most will coincide with our use of the website and answering questions from the information athered there. Our online textbook is also a great resource for homework. You will be assigned between eight and fifteen homework assignments. Make sure they are complete, most will be online and reachable wherever there is wifi.
10% of your grade is the completion and participation in the lab portion of your Living Environment class.
You must record 1200 minutes (20 hours) of successful laboratory minutes as reported by your teacher. These labs can be virtual or hands on and there are four New York State labs that must be completed as part of the 1200 minutes (20 hours). Part "D" of the Regents exam is strictly about those four labs and the lab practices we complete within them.
10% of your grade is participation.
Are you participating in your own academic success. How do we do that? We show up on time and follow our daily instructions, we don't create chaos or havoc in this classroom with our behavior, we are respectful to everyone around us, students and adults. When you have a question you ask it, if you have a question than most likely other students in the class have the same question. If you think you know an answer, raise your hand and answer. Don't worry if your answer isn't perfect, that's why we are here to explain why the answer is or isn't correct.
